The natural origin of our products is now supported by independently verified, quantified environmental information.
At PROMINDSA, we are taking another step in our commitment to environmental transparency with the publication of Environmental Product Declarations —EPDs— for MICRONOX R01 and R02, our natural iron oxide pigments, and MICRONOX BIOX ON16 and ON16D, our mineral adsorbents for biogas desulphurisation.
Both declarations are registered with The International EPD System and provide data that help our customers understand the environmental impact of the raw materials they incorporate into their products and processes.
What does an EPD offer?
An Environmental Product Declaration reports a product’s environmental impacts based on a life cycle assessment, following standardised rules and methodologies and subject to independent verification.
Its value lies in providing specific, traceable and verifiable information. For our customers, this means access to data they can use in their own life cycle assessments, carbon footprint calculations and ecodesign decisions, in accordance with the applicable methodology.
MICRONOX R01 and R02: a quantified manufacturing footprint
The EPD for our MICRONOX R01 and R02 pigments declares a global warming potential of 72 kg of CO₂ equivalent per tonne of pigment for modules A1–A3: from raw material supply to the factory gate.
This result reflects a production model based on natural iron oxides and their processing through physical operations, such as crushing, micronisation and particle size classification, together with the use of renewable electricity.
For manufacturers of paints, coatings, construction materials and fertilisers, this information enables a more precise calculation of the pigment’s contribution to the environmental impact of their finished products.
MICRONOX BIOX ON16 and ON16D: environmental data for the biogas value chain
Our BIOX ON16 and ON16D mineral adsorbents are added directly to the digester to remove hydrogen sulphide —H₂S— during anaerobic digestion.
Their EPD declares a global warming potential of 0.243 kg of CO₂ equivalent per kilogram of adsorbent, within the scope and scenarios defined in the declaration, including a reference European distribution distance of 1,000 km by road.
This information enables biogas and biomethane operators to incorporate specific adsorbent data into their environmental assessments.
The figures for the two product families cover different system boundaries and must be used in accordance with the conditions of each EPD.
Greater transparency for better decisions
These declarations strengthen our ability to support customers who need to understand and document the environmental impact of their raw materials.
Alongside their technical performance, our minerals now offer verified environmental information to support more informed decisions.
